Branch Counselor Prof. Siva Sarma becomes Senior Member

A student branch can never prosper without a guiding force, one who can inspire and support the branch towards the smooth running of its activities. And we are proud to have Prof. D.V.S. Siva Sarma, as our Branch Counselor. His love for the students makes us all consider him as friend, and yet, he manages to act as a mentor and guide us in the right direction whenever the need arises. To commemorate his dedication and contributions, IEEE distinguished him as a Senior Member, a privilege which is given only to 5% of the members worldwide! In this relation, our student branch had a social gathering of the 2007 and 2008 executive body for a dinner party, hosted by Prof. Siva Sarma. The student enjoyed the dinner followed by which they had a discussion about means of improving the student-teacher relationship.

On behalf of the entire student branch of NITW, the executive body of 2008 congratulates Prof. Sarma and thanks him for being there for us whenever we needed him.

Chairman speaks

We at IEEE-student branch are a group of people definitely looking beyond academics. The special interest group discussions and the student lectures initiated at the student branch has brought like minded people in the student community to work together. Student Branch also gives an equal opportunity for its members to nurture their leadership skills. It is one of the most mature & professional student organization of the many clubs

The Student branch at NIT Warangal is all set for an action. Truly a miracle and its much exciting to see that its happening. The tradition of the branch reflects the attitude of the student members. Luckily every year we had the hard working & energetic team that proactively took over responsibilities and retained the glory. In the years to come we will see a new environment to nuture the different skillset in each individual students, the dream happens but not without a toil !!.. We are posed with challenges at every step and a glory with every rise..

The IEEE student branch of NIT Warangal is one of the oldest branches of IEEE in the country. I would like to narrate a true incident below:
Being a hardcore fan of Open Source softwares and hardwares, I was very much interested in bringing opensource to the students of the college but it was very difficult for me to do so alone. One of my friends, Prasanna the present chairperson of the branch introduced me to the counsellor and together we have been able to spread the news of open source not only among the students of the college but also among the students outside the college(ie. the rest of Andhra Pradesh and some from outside as well). Similarly the student branch appreciates new ideas from other students as well. It is a place where you can air your views freely and work for your goals as well. To be a member all you need to be is a person who appreciates technology.
