STAR Program

The Student Branch of NITW, visited the Fatima Girls High School, Kazipet, Warangal on 13th October ‘09 as part of the IEEE STAR(Student-Teacher and Engineer/Scientist) Program to encourage girl students to take up careers in the fields of mathematics, science and Engineering by giving an insight into the various innovations that have made man’s life simple.
It began with Dr.M.Sailaja Kumari (Faculty Advisor, IEEE WIE(Women in Engineering) Student Branch Affinity Group) giving an introduction to IEEE-WIE and the various programs conducted by it to encourage women to be part of the field of engineering. The school was promised that students would be able to use the NITW labs, to understand their subjects, much better through practical experiments.
This was followed by a presentation given by the students of NITW, on “Science, Engineering and Technology careers for the future generation” and the various fields under it.
The students were very enthusiastic and listened to the presentation intently. At the very outset the students of our college highlighted the importance of girls in the field of engineering. Most of the students already had an idea about the different fields of engineering and were ready to answer the questions put forward by the presenters.
The presentation included some informative videos which added to the exuberance felt by the girls. They also got to know all they needed to about the various branches of this vast field of study. The scope and the future of technology were also underlined.
At the end of the whole program many students also met up with the volunteers and discussed their doubts regarding various initiatives they have to take in order to have a strong base for engineering. All in all, it was a successful event fulfilling the objective of the IEEE STAR program.
